I have recipie's picture, but I can't put in my recipies. Can you help you please ?

Food Photography Training

I just returned from a workshop in Food Styling and Photography. It was three full days working with a nationally known food photographer, his stylist and production team. With a complete commercial grade kitchen and multiple studio photo setups, the participants were guided through the production of everything from food packages to magazine covers.

The experience definitely moved my food pictures to a whole new level. I can hardly wait to get home and try out some of the tricks I picked up.

Budding photographer (HA!)

Life is funny. Up until now I hated cameras. I cringed when people insisted on taking pictures of me whether with family or at work functions.  When it comes to taking photos, I am not the world's greatest photographer. My excuse is that I'd rather live in the moment than try to capture it. Cameras just aren't my thing.

It just so happens that I will be visiting Greece this fall. It only seems right that I should take a decent camera with me rather than relying on the mediocre functionality of my mobile device to capture the sights of Greece. Thanks to bigoven.com, the point was driven home this past weekend when they rejected my first photo submission for a bruschetta recipe that I was very proud to develop. I have to admit, it was pretty obvious the photo came from my cell.

Fate stepped in last night when I was flipping through the channels and stopped on the Home Shopping Network. Guess what the special was. That's right -- cameras. They advertised a relatively inexpensive Olympus. What really got my attention were the various photography modes that supposedly make taking pictures goof proof. There's even a wizard for culinary photography. Enough said. Sign me up!

It's my hope that I'll be submitting many photos in the future that will be bigoven.com worthy. In turn, perhaps the exercise will sharpen my photography skills in time for Greece and resolve my aversion to all things photographic. Let's hope.

Black and White Food Photos

I love black and white (grayscale) photos.

Does anyone have any experience photographing food in color digitally and then presenting it in black and white?

Cropping photos

I find that cropping photos makes some photos look exceptional. When I take a picture, I utilize the cropping tool in the software to play around with it. You can take a blah photo and really make it interesting with some cropping. You can give it  interesting angles and positions. Anyone else have some hints from photo software to share.

Just joining in!

Hello fellow foodies, I am really getting to know my camera and what it is capable of doing, I have a Kodak All-in-one 8.2 mega pixels. I utilize my picture software as well, I have 3 different ones, I use Microsoft picture, Adobe, and Digital imaging.  Just dropping by to say Hi and look forward to learning much from the expert picture takers

Love it!

Hi y'all. I just joined a few days ago and must say I love the site. I am really enjoying checking out all the recipes.

I took my first photos of food, not something I thought I would ever do. But, it was a ton of fun. Cooking something I posted, arranging it on my counter, snapping several shots. My biggest problem is choosing the one I like best, it takes as long as cooking the recipe! Ok, just kidding.

Any tips or tricks to getting just the right shot would be more than welcome.

I look forward to talking with y'all in the near future. Thanks

Stef

Buying Tips

I have been in and out of photography for years. My digital cameras have been non-SLR type, which I miss. So, I was wondering if anyone had any luck with the Nikon "D" series cameras out there.

Tips for taking your own photos

I launched my own business www.MemorableEntertaining.com a year ago.  The site is full of photographs of food, tablescapes and centerpieces.

Right now I am taking all the photos myself some better than others.  Finding the right lighting always seems to be the biggest challenge.

Any tips, ideas or resources for this 'do- it- your selfer' would be appreciated!

Thank you

Presentation, Minimal vs. Fancy

When you're setting up a dish to photograph which style to you subscribe to?
1. Minimalist Here's the food, served unadorned.

2. Artistic I've arranged the plate to look like an art piece. It might not be how you'd really serve it.

3. Realist Here's the food as actually served, along with accompaniments.

I'm not saying any version is better/worse, just what version to you like and/or what version do you usually do when you're shooting recipe pictures.

Rejected Photo

Hello !  I'm a brand new member, and just for fun submitted a photo a couple of days ago.  It was rejected ....  Sigh... (just kiddin').  Can I submit it here for review even tho it was rejected?  I'd like to learn from the experience.
Thanks for your help!

Is this addictif?

I am sorry I am not able to take the photo course but I certainly would appreciate comments or guidance from experienced photographs.   I seem to be using a "hit or miss" process and at the same time have a compulsive need for recipes in need of picture...
A gentle constructive critique of posted pics could benefit to all.  What do you think?
