Subject: Pastry Cake Info Wanted

My Uncle used to buy a beautiful cake that had layers of thin pastry between the cake layers. It was filled with cream and fruit usually.  This was over 40 years ago and everyone I've asked doesn't know what I'm talking about.  Can you tell me the name or anything about these cakes?
