BigOven

I am a new user who has installed Big Oven on 2 computers, one at my office, one on my home PC - as is permitted.  But when I download a recipe at my office and then go home with the intention of making it, I find that it has not shown up on my recipe box at home - which is very frustrating and seems to defeat the purpose of having the software on 2 computers!

How is this supposed to work...or, what am I doing wrong?

BigOven has two locations to store recipes -- (a) online, on BigOven.com, and (b) recipe boxes.  Recipe boxes are files that live on a local machine.

When you fetch a recipe from the online archive (by clicking "Import" on your BigOven web view window), it stores it on your local PC.  In this case, your office PC.  It does nothing to your home PC's copy of BigOven.

However, you can simply copy a recipe down from the archive in the same way on your home PC.  We recommend you use your online "Try Soon" and "Favorites" list for this very purpose.

What about simply e-mailing the recipe stored on my "office" Big Oven" archive to myself so I can subsequently retrieve it at home, then download and import it into my "home" Big Oven recipe file?

(...Having asked the question, let me say that I've tried to do this but encountered the following message:  "Data System.mdw was not found on my Big Oven Recipe folder...Big Oven could not locate file System.mdw":  what does this stuff mean?)

You can transfer your entire "My BigOven Recipes" folder from one machine to the next, or, if you only need the recipe box file, you can transfer that.

Note that BigOven is quite particular about where the file should be copied before you open it.  Here are two good threads from our FAQ that should help:
