BigOven

HELP!  I just purchased the program (I had tried to access the trial program, and had this same problem,  thought it might be the trial program, got the same error after I purchased!).  After downloading the program, installation fails.  I get the report which states:

          Component transfer error 

           Bigoven DL

           App Data Files

          C:\ Documents and Settings\All users\ Documents\ MyBigOvenRecipes\

          Access is denied

Any suggestions??

The "Access is Denied" message that the InstallShield installer is reporting indicates that it cannot write to that folder. 

(But it should be able to, because under a standard Windows configuration, the "Shared Documents" folder should be read-write for all users.  This was probably changed on your PC at some point or another.)

First thing to check is whether your current Windows login allows you to write to the "Shared Documents" directory.  (In Windows XP, which it appears you are using, "Shared Documents" is exactly the same as C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Documents.)  Make sure your Windows logon has full permissions on that folder.  You need to log in as a user with Administrator rights in XP, and/or grant full permissions on that and other folders to your Windows logon.

I am the only user on my computer and have full administrative rights (but I will check this)...any other suggestions???

The first thing to do is to verify that you can write to the folder that is presenting the "Access Denied" message in the installer.

So, close out of the BigOven installer, and open Windows Explorer. 

Navigate to the folder as named in the message, and try to create a folder called "My BigOven Recipes" in your "Shared Documents" folder, and then, try to save, say, a TXT (Notepad) or Word document into that folder.  If you cannot, then please see Windows Help to make sure you have full read/write permissions on that folder.

If you can save to that folder, then perhaps the Access Denied message is coming from the source location, not the destination, though the Installshield error message does suggest that it is the destination that is denying you write-access. 

Just to close this one out (if anyone else has this issue), we were able to confirm via email that this user's machine was indeed not configured for read/write access to the 'Shared Documents' folder, which is the recommended installation location by Microsoft for all data that is to be shared between Windows logins.  (Since we want, by design, users on the same PC to be able to share shopping lists and recipe boxes, this is where your "user-created" BigOven data is stored.)  This Shared Documents folder is initially set by Windows Setup so that all users can read and write to it (thus the term 'Shared').  Sometimes, some badly behaving programs may change the permissions on this folder, but they (and you) shouldn't do so.  The Shared Documents folder is designed to be public.

If you receive the "Access is Denied" message, first, exit out of the installer and establish read/write permissions on that folder.
