Import button on bottom of page not working

I pick a recipe on the web. I click small import button at bottom of the page. Then I click open on pop up box. It does open up my welcome page. I then put in recipe name and bring up the recipe. A month ago the big import button at the top would turn color. I would click this and recipe is imported to my R. boxes. The big import button now is continuing to stay grey. All that happens is the same recipe opens up with the small import button at the bottom. This just repeats itself without importing to my personal recipes. Does anyone know how to fix this.

Re: Import button on bottom of page not working

I am confused.  The process should be:

Import a recipe into BigOven using EITHER:

    * (preferred method) From within BigOven for Windows, navigate to a recipe that's hosted on the online archive.  You'll see a recipe page displayed (with the bigoven logo after the title), and the import button will light up.  Click that button, and it'll import it into the currently open recipe box.

    OR

    * Visit www.bigoven.com using a browser, not BigOven for Windows.  If you see a recipe page you like, at the footer of the page, click the small "import" button.  This should launch BigOven for Windows and ask you which recipe box you'd like to import it to.  Clicking OK should import it into the product, and bring you to a local page on your PC (with the import button greyed out), showing you the recipe in your recipe box.

If the "Import!" button is greyed out above the browser in BigOven for Windows, it's most likely because you're already viewing that recipe on your PC.

Hi, the problem is that neither method is working right now. A few weeks ago I was able to import using the preferred method and just as you say, the import light would come on. Now, when I open a recipe within the program the import light stays greyed out regardless of what I do. If I go online to www.bigoven.com and try the alternate method, I don't get the message that you are referring to, I get the standard windows box asking if I want to open or save the file. If there is any advice that you might have to help me work out this problem I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

BigOven relies upon Internet Explorer for its web browsing.  Perhaps an IE library (DLL) has become corrupted on your PC -- the easiest thing to try is to reinstall/download Internet Explorer from www.microsoft.com/ie

I did reload big oven. The import button is still not working. Also I have noticed that lots of recipes are in error now. It's like half the recipe is right and then part of a totally different recipe is included with it. Do you have any ideas how to fix this. I have loaded lots of recipes so I know when the import button isn't working correctly. On my personal recipe page it is like the web pulls up there and will always have the little import button at bottom. It never changes but just pulls up the same web page. Somehow it is my personal web box that doesn't work.

Re: Import button on bottom of page not working

I am confused by your message.  Are you saying that the very small import button at the bottom of a recipe page on www.bigoven.com isn't launching the software, or are you saying that the larger "Import!" button within the software (at the top of the web viewer) isn't working properly?  Can you give us a step by step example of what you're trying to do that doesn't work for you?

    Thanks

I go to bigoven.com and pick a recipe. I click small import button on the bottom of recipe. It takes me to my welcome Cathy page. I then put the name of the recipe I want into the search area. It brings up the recipe exactly like the same web page. That means that the little import button is still on the bottom. The large import button at the top is still greyed out. (Usually that top button would turn blue and then I could send to my personal recipe box). Somehow this search isn't bringing it to my personal web page. Any ideas. Let me know if any more questions

Also since I reloaded big oven I need to do the upgrade. The upgrade from the help button says that the upgrade page no longer exists.

Re: Import button on bottom of page not working

The very small import button on the footer of the recipe pages on the website is an optional convenience feature meant to be used if you're browsing the site and not currently running BigOven for Windows. It should normally launch the software, ask you which recipe box you'd like to import to, and then place it in that recipe box.  (On some machines, it doesn't necessarily behave this way, depending upon which browser you use, how it is configured, and also how any antivirus software is configured.  Because clicking on it downloads a .BGO file that is an XML file to your PC, and some antivirus programs are now getting more strict about what can and cannot be downloaded from the web, by default.)

Here's what we recommend -- 99% of the time, what you should be doing to import a recipe into BigOven is to first launch BigOven for Windows, then use the Find button on the toolbar or other method to browse or search the website from within BigOven for Windows' web viewer, and then click the larger "import" button at the top of the recipe page.

    Hope that helps!

We'll check into the update link -- in the meantime, it's here:  http://www.bigoven.com/downloads/bigovenupdate.exe
