With 160,000+ recipes posted to the site (not typed in / posted by us here at headquarters, mostly posted and shared by other folks from around the world), we cannot guarantee that all the recipes are fully complete. We do have a box on the rate/comment form that says "mark this for investigation", and that's the best way to alert our editor that the recipe needs to be deleted from the archive.
If you have the software, you do have editing priviliges. Simply import the recipe, make the changes you'd like, and click "Post". The edits will go live, along with a note that you made edits to the recipe. (It is generally a courtesy to also notify the original poster, if one is shown, that these changes were made.)
Please note that for $29.95 US, you get the recipe software, plus many free updates to that software, plus free access to the shared online archive, plus free mobile companions, a permanent webpage to share your favorites, cooking videos, a food dictionary and more.
We would have to charge significantly more if we employed a large staff of food writers to edit and test all 160,000 recipes that people are sharing. We decided long ago that this is not a role we play in the picture, at least for now -- rather, we feel it's our role to create a place for the community to share recipes amongst themselves, and software to do so as easily as possible. If that doesn't work for you, BigOven is probably not the right product for you. We'll be sorry to see you go, but just to set your expectations, we need to outline the role we're trying to play here. We are, primarily, a software company that provides a platform for people to share recipes, food discussion and cooking content amongst themselves.
You can best help improve the content by existing recipes by rating them as incomplete, or editing them directly by importing them, making changes, and re-posting (this will show "I made edits to this recipe" in the comment log), or simply by marking them for deletion and/or investigation. This may not be exactly the answer you were looking for, but we think it's a good opportunity for us to clarify the role we're playing in the recipe sharing site thus far.
Thanks!
