Re: Amarettihttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspx Amaretti cookies are made from almonds, ground. and a meringue is used as the batter. They are then baked at a low temperature just like meringue till they are hard.

Amaretti cookieshttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspxI respectfully disagree with the person who said hazelnut biscotti can substitute for amaraett.  They are totally different in flavor and texture.  However, if you can't find the cookies, there are zillions of online recipes for making them.  Just search 'amaretti cookie recipe; on Google.

Re: Amarettihttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspxLook for a biscotti cookie, with hazelnut in the ingredients. This will work as a substitute you can find at a local grocery store if a deli or internet purchase is not availible to you.

Re: Amarettihttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspxYou probably mean Amaretto which is a sweet almond-flavoured liqueur. You can find it at just about any liquor store that has a decent selection. Amaretti are almond flavord cookies.

Re: Amarettihttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspxI've seen them for sale at Starbucks!  Giada DeLaurentis uses them often on her cooking shows on FoodNetwork.  They are an italian cookie.

Re: Amarettihttp://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspx

Amaretti are crunchy Italian cookies usually sold in a red tin. Try finding them at delicatessans. But beware---they’re not cheap!
