About me

I'm a retired teacher of English. I spend my spare time gardening , painting,

mainly in oils or pastel, walking in the lake district or coastal marshes.

I have been a soldier, lighthouse keeper, chiropodist as well, before 30

years teaching. All keepers have to learn to cook (if they know what's good for them, as others will be eating their efforts) so I have an interest in cooking as well. I have a quince tree -that's a real quince, not a silly little chaenomeles Japonica with red fruit, but huge golden monsters ,

some of which weigh over a pound. Any good recipes out there?

My Favorite Foods

I have a half French wife, so good food and good cheap wine are part of

life. We love all the trad. English roasts with gravy made with wine of course, then there's navarin of lamb (tastier than Irish stew), cod or haddock mornay and those gorgeous Breton tarts. We both can make syrup sponge pud., and like all ex-keepers I can make my own bread( it's not true about the mermaids doing the light house work -

pardon the pun)
