Apple Crumb Pie

One Thanksgiving, I attempted to bake an apple pie. Needless to say, it was a little runny and the apples were still a little crunchy. I never heard the end of it from Grandpa! After that, Grandma gave me her recipe for apple pie.

Ingredients

4 large Tart apples (Granny Smith)

1/2 cup Sugar

1 teaspoon Cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg

TOPPING

1/2 cup Sugar

3/4 cup Flour

1/3 cup Butter


Directions

PREHEAT OVEN TO 450 DEGREES. Peel and core apples. Slice into eighths, and toss with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Arrange in a 9" pie crust. Sift together the sugar and flour, and then cut in 1/3 cup butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples. Bake in a hot oven (450 degrees) for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees, and bake about 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender.
