Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup good quality dark chocolate chip

1/2 cup sliced almond

Directions

Prepare a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. In a deep, heavy-bottomed pan, heat the butter, sugar and salt over medium heat. Stir frequently until the butter is melted and the ingredients combine. Slowly bring the mixture to a boil. Let it simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally with a wooden spatula until the color of the mixture changes to amber. Around 20 minutes. Remove toffee from heat, carefully spread it evenly over the baking sheet with a spatula. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee and allow to set for a few minutes to soften. Gently spread the chocolate to thinly coat the top of the toffee. Sprinkle the almonds over the chocolate layer. Use a sheet of clean parchment paper to gently pat the almonds into the chocolate. Place the toffee into the refrigerator for at least an hour to harden. Once chilled, carefully remove the toffee from the pan by lifting the hangs of the parchment paper, and break into pieces.

Very good. I added crushed peppermint on top instead of sliced almonds.

Delicious, great treat with the kids. Use a whisk, on low to simmer the butter/sugar toffee on a gas burner. Chill for at least two hours. Excellent holiday treat.

Burns at 20, watch at 10 remove as soon as it is milky caramel

Toffee, fudge and caramel recipes really need temperature added to the recipe as making any of these should never be "guess work" based on time and color. The "medium" setting on a gas stove is different than medium on an electric stove and is different on an induction stove. This is probably a good recipe but I wouldn't attempt it not knowing what temperature to cook it to (I'll have to assume somewhere from 290-300). High temperature candy is incredibly temperamental and there's nothing worse than spending the time to make a candy recipe only to end up tossing it in the trash.

So easy and everyone loves it! We don't add the nuts due to allergies.
