Italian Sausage Panzerotti

Deep-fried turnovers stuffed with roasted red peppers and sausage make a fine party fixining.

Ingredients

12 oz. Pizza dough

2 tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil

1 tsp. small clove garlic minced

2 roasted red peppers thinly sliced

1 red onion thinly sliced

1/2 cup Pizza Sauce

2 cups Mozzarella shredded

8 oz. dried italian sausage patted dry and sliced

1 egg white lightly beaten

Vegetable oil for deep frying


Directions

Divide dough into 4 equal parts; roll each into 8-inch circles. Cover and set aside. In bowl, whisk together oil, garlic and jalapeno pepper. Add red pepper and onion; toss to coat. Spread sauce over half of each pizza base; sprinkle with pepper mixture and mozzarella cheese. Top with sausage. Brush edge of doughwith egg whites. Fold dough over filling ti form half moon shapes; pinch edges to seal. Pour enough oil into deep fryer or deep heavy bottomed saucepan to come at least 2 inches up side. Heat to 375'F or until 1 inch cube of bread turns golden in 30 seconds. Gently place 1-2 panzerotti into oil; deep fry, turning once, until golden brown and crisp, about 5 minutes. Drain on paper towel. repeat with remaining panzerotti.
