Kansas City Barbecue Sauce

My go-to barbecue sauce for summertime chicken barbecue.

Ingredients

1/2 cup cider vinegar

2 cups ketchup

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

2 teaspoons red pepper sauce

1 tablespoon paprika

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

1 clove garlic minced

1/4 cup chili sauce

1 teaspoons salt up to 2 teaspoons


Directions

In a saucepan, mix vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, pepper sauce, paprika, butter, garlic, chili sauce and salt. Simmer 15 to 20 minutes over low heat.

My son and I were making our turkey loaf and discovered we were out of store-bought barbecue sauce! But we are resourceful! We had all of the ingredients for this recipe & mixed it up quick. We put what we needed in the turkey loaf and stored the rest. Thank you for posting!

I put the amount of sauce I think I'll need into a separate bowl and discard any that doesn't get used. The rest I keep in the refrigerator in a tightly covered jar and use it for 2 or 3 more barbecues. (I posted this recipe.)
