Rootbeer Molasses Glaze Marinade

“This recipe can also be used as a marinade and is great on all proteins, including chicken, duck and shrimp,” says Matthew Stricker, executive chef of Cuvée World Bistro. “My favorite is over grilled pork chops or beef tenderloin bites with some sweet potatoes on the side – delicious!”

Ingredients

2 Cups Root beer

1 Cup Molasses

1 Cup Brown Sugar

1/2 Cup Ketchup

1 Tablespoon Sassafras

1/4 Tablespoon ground star anise

2 Cinnamon sticks

Directions

Combine all ingredients in sauce pan and bring to a boil and mix well. Simmer for 8 minutes on low heat. Note: Reduce longer for thicker consistency. You can also spice it up by adding your favorite chile or pepper. This is the marinate that you would use with the Rootbeer glazed beef bites recipe. Place in the fridge for 6 hours stirring every hour. If you don't have Sassafras or Ground Star Anise then no problem. It will still taste just fine without it.
