Excellent for picnics and potlucks!
Mix the seeds, nuts, cabbage and onions in a large salad bowl. Add chicken too, if you're using it. (Chicken is good if you saute it with sesame oil, sambal oelek and salt.) Smash the noodles from the ramen package. You can either mix in the pieces of noodles as-is, or you can toast them for a few minutes on a cookie sheet for extra flavor, and then add those to the salad.
In a small bowl, mix the dressing : the ramen flavor packet, oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and the garlic if you're using it. Once the dressing is mixed thoroughly, mix it into the salad. Let sit for a while before serving to let flavors blend. Serve at room temp.
