Prep Time: 10 Min
Cook Time: 8 Min
Total Time: 18 Min
INGREDIENTS
1 c. unsalted butter, softened
1 c. packed brown sugar
3/4 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. water
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. (about 6 oz.) mini chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat treat the flour:
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil. Spread flour in a thin layer in baking sheet.
Bake at 350? for 8 minutes. -- Watch closely, as you do not want the flour to brown. If it begins to brown in any areas, remove it from the oven.
Set aside to cool.
Prepare the edible chocolate chip cookie dough:
In a large bowl combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla; beat until creamy. Beat in water.
Combine cooled heat-treated flour and salt, stirring with a fork or whisk to break up any clumps of flour.
Add flour mixture to butter/sugar mixture; mix well.
Stir in chocolate chips, and enjoy!
TRACEY'S NOTES:
Heat-treating the flour makes it safe to eat in the unbaked, raw cookie dough. Though we often don't think of flour as a raw food, it is. As packaged, flour hasn't been treated to kill germs and bacteria that can cause food poisoning. -- Germs and bacteria can contaminate the grain used to make flour while it's still in the field or while the flour is being made. Heat-treating makes it safe for consumption. -- the flour should be heated to 160? to be safe.
We love the texture of this cookie dough made with mini chocolate chips. However, regular-sized semi-sweet chocolate chips can be used just fine, as well.
Store edible chocolate chip cookie dough in a covered container in the refrigerator.
