Excellent soup!
Saute ham, onion and garlic in butter until union is tender. Add everything else except peas and simmer for 30 minutes. Add peas and cook for 5 minutes.
I had just baked a ham when I made this so I had the drippings that had collected in the bottom of the roasting pan. If you do not have that available then substitute 3 cups of chicken broth for the ham drippings.
