Suggest a better description1. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 7/220 C/425 F. 2. Sift the self-raising flour with the baking powder and salt. Mix in the granary-type flour. 3. Rub the butter into the flours and stir in the thyme. Add the milk and egg to make a soft dough. 4. Roll out to 1cm (1/2 inch) thick and cut into rounds. Place on a well greased baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. 5. Cool a little and serve warm, heaped in a basket with sprigs of flowering thyme if you like. NOTES : Soft, wholesome and aromatic, these scones are not only irresistible at teatime, they also make an interesting addition to a bread basket to serve up with salad and soups.
