Suggest a better descriptionRinse and soak chana dal and rice separately for 3 hours.
Heat 3 Tbsp oil in pressure cooker and add a couple onion in there. Once they start to sizzle then add in the cumin, mustard seed, methi seed. Once those start to sizzle then add in hing, 1/4 tsp tumeric, 1/4 tsp chili powder. Mix for a minute then add in the chopped onion, jalapeno, and garlic and saute.
Add in the chana dal, rice, tumeric, garam masala, 3 cups water, salt, and cilantro.
Pressure cook for 10 minutes, then 5 minutes natural. Then release pressure manually.
Drain any excess water and add butter. Top with Onion relish or pickled onions.
Onion Relish
1/2 white onion, sliced thinly
1/4 teaspoon salt
juice of 1/4 lemon
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 tablespoon cilantro chopped
