This is a favorite for my family. I got this recipe from my mother-in-law and my husband said it is the best.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup, butter, water, and cornstarch. Bring to a full boil, and remove from heat.
In a medium-size mixing bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Gradually beat in cooked syrup mixture. Stir in salt, vanilla, and pecans. Pour into chilled pie shell and cover crust edge with a protector if needed.
Bake for 30-40 minutes until filling is set and golden to dark brown. DO NOT cut the pie until it is completely cooled!!!
